Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish are investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of Kaybri Robinson, a 6-month-old from Hammond, while leaving multiple others injured and resulting in the arrest of the driver.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop L, the single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, along U.S. Highway 51 near Tickfaw. Investigators reported that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, driven by 25-year-old Resjyne N. Griffin, was traveling northbound when it left the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a culvert.
Authorities stated that Griffin was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained moderate injuries. Two young passengers were also reportedly unrestrained at the time of the crash. A 5-year-old child suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Kaybri Robinson was also taken to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
During the investigation, troopers reported that the driver allegedly showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody. Officials confirmed that Griffin is expected to face multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, failure to use child restraints, careless operation, open container, and driving without a license. Toxicology samples were collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
The heartbreaking loss of Kaybri Robinson has deeply affected the Hammond community and surrounding areas, where friends, family members, and residents have expressed grief over the death of such a young life. Tributes, prayers, and messages of support have continued to pour in as loved ones mourn.
